Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 renders tease 18:9 bezel-less design, dual cameras and more
The Redmi Note 5 launch may be upon us after all, although Xiaomi is yet to confirm its existence. A new batch of renders of the alleged Redmi Note 5 have now hit the internet showing off Xiaomi’s upcoming Redmi Note 4 successor in all its glory. At the same time, the renders, seem to confirm ongoing leaks and rumours regarding the design of the alleged Redmi Note 5, and dual cameras that are fast becoming an industry norm even in the affordable price segment.
As per the renders, the Redmi Note 5 is seen sporting a full-metal body and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, much like the Redmi Note 4. Unlike the Redmi Note 4, however, the Redmi Note 5 is seen sporting a larger 5.99-inch 1080p+ 18:9 display on the front and dual cameras consisting of one 16-megapixel sensor and another 5-megapixel sensor (for portrait selfies) on the back. The Redmi Note 5 will, in addition, reportedly come in three colours: gray, black and blue.
On the inside, the Redmi Note 5 is said to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor clubbed with up to 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB storage. It is said to run Android Nougat-based MIUI 9, and fueled by a 4,100mAh battery with support for fast charging.
Govt likely to get Rs 35K cr from LTCG tax; 5 companies to buy post Budget 2018
The Budget 2018 was clearly rural-focused with the correct political sound bites but at the same time, it was disciplined and healthy. The exchequer apparently did a good job at managing its finances with the deficit coming in at 3.5 percent and a projection of 3.3 percent for the next year, which is both realistic as well as reasonable.
There was a lot of give-and-take in this budget. While corporate tax rates were reduced to 25 percent for corporates with a turnover of less than Rs 250 crore, cess has been increased by 1 percent to 4 percent.
Similarly, not much has moved in this budget either for the salaried class or the low-income group, with lack of new tax incentives to boost consumption.
With respect to the Capital markets, the budget was a definite disappointment. The Disinvestment target of Rs 80,000 crore for 2018-19 is conservative but again lacks boldness in divesting non-core assets.

New update hitting Samsung Galaxy A8+ (2018)
Samsung has started pushing out a new update to its Galaxy A8+ (2018) smartphone. Weighing in at around 115MB and arriving as firmware version A730FXXU1ARAC, it's a security update that's currently hitting units in India.
No, it's not the February update - security level stays at January 1 (if you remember, the device has already got the January update). So it's not clear what exactly the update brings along.
The same happened with the Galaxy Note8 recently, so we assume this new update for the Galaxy A8+ (2018) also includes fixes for the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities.
Bigger Billion: Flipkart posts a 68% jump in losses to Rs 8771 crore in FY17
Durba Ghosh Moneycontrol News
Bangalore based e-commerce major Flipkart widened its losses by 68 percent to Rs 8,771 crore for the financial year ending March 2017, reveal latest documents filed with registrar of companies.
Flipkart had posted losses of Rs 5,223 crore in 2015-16, according to additional documents accessed via company data portal paper.vc.
The widening losses show increased investments by Flipkart to expand its base in India market even as rival Amazon pumps in more dollars for discounted deals.
The company’s revenues for the period stood at Rs 19,854 crore, up 29 percent compared to Rs 15,403 crore, earned in the previous financial year, regulatory filings showed.
The e-commerce company had suffered a dip in its valuation when it last raised USD 1.4 billion from Tencent, Microsoft and eBay. The funding valued the company at a little over USD 11 billion, compared to a high of USD 15 billion in 2015.
Microsoft introduces cheaper Surface Laptop and Surface Book 2 variants
Similarly, the Surface Book 2 now starts at $1199 for the 13.5-inch model, and has an Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. Previously, the cheapest variant was $1499 and had 256GB storage.
While positively rated, Microsoft's Surface computers are often criticized for their high prices. These new variants are cheaper but they also lose out on critical specifications, so the value proposition remains the same. However, if you are on a tight budget and don't mind a slightly slower processor or less storage, then these just might be within your reach now.
Google hiring more people outside Silicon Valley in US
Google’s Cloud business and its hardware revenue reached .69 billion, from .4 billion in Q4 of 2016. (Reuters)
Google is hiring thousands of people outside of its Silicon Valley base in the US and will build five more data centres in the country this year. In an investors’ call, CEO Sundar Pichai said that Google would be “making significant investments in offices across nine states, including Colorado and Michigan”. Google currently has six open data centres across the US. A data centre can typically employ a few hundred people, Fortune reported late on Friday. According to CNN, the company is also planning a “massive expansion” into San Jose, California, not far from its Mountain View headquarters. The announcement came after several reports said that Facebook, Apple and Amazon were also planning to build more facilities and hire more staff in the country.
Riding on Google’s growing ad business, Alphabet Inc on Friday posted $32.32 billion in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2017 — up 24 per cent (year-on-year) from $26.06 billion during the same quarter in 2016. After deducting its traffic acquisition costs, Google’s revenue alone was $25.87 billion. Google’s Cloud business and its hardware revenue reached $4.69 billion, from $3.4 billion in Q4 of 2016. The company’s Cloud business now generates over $1 billion per quarter, Pichai said during the investors’ call.

Nokia sales grew throughout 2017, reached a total of 8.45 million units
HMD took it slow when it resurrected the Nokia brand. It initially launched the Nokia 6 in China and managed to sell 100,000 units in the first quarter (per IDC numbers). Its confidence grew and expanded to more regions and introduced more models.
Q2 saw the introduction of the Nokia 5 and 3. Sales jumped up significantly as those two (along with the 6) went on the international market – New Nokias don’t seem to do well in China.
The number of smartphones sold per quarter kept growing and in the last three months of 2017, HMD had a 1% share of global smartphone sales - a total of 8.45 million units - according to Counterpoint Research.
